Migrating from GroupKit to SAGA

📦 What you will need

  • Your GroupKit export — a CSV file of your group members.

  • A SAGA account. The free trial is plenty to start.

1️⃣ Export your data from GroupKit

  1. Log in to your GroupKit account.

  2. Open the group you want to migrate.

  3. Use GroupKit's Export / Download option to save your member list as a CSV file.

You will typically get each member's name, email address and their answers to your approval questions — exactly the information SAGA needs.

Heads up: keep that CSV somewhere safe. Once GroupKit shuts down you will not be able to download it again, so export before your access ends.

2️⃣ Get your CSV ready for SAGA

  1. Open the file in Excel, Google Sheets or OpenOffice Calc.

  2. Make sure the first row has headers — First Name, Last Name, Email, Mobile Phone, and so on.

  3. Delete any extra rows above the header line.

  4. Save the file as a .csv (the upload limit is 10 MB).

3️⃣ Import your members into SAGA

  1. Contacts → Import — open your Contacts page and click Import.

  2. Choose Upload CSV File.

  3. Select the CSV you exported from GroupKit.

  4. Map your fields — check what SAGA matched automatically (for example email) and map the rest. Set any column you do not need to IGNORE.

  5. Assign extra info — add a label (we suggest GroupKit, so your old group stays a clean segment), and optionally a membership or a step.

  6. Review the recap — you will see the contacts ready to import, any missing information, and any that will be skipped for a missing name. Remove what you do not want, then confirm.

That is it — your group members are now in SAGA.

4️⃣ Finish the move

  • Keep your group as a segment: filter Contacts by your GroupKit label whenever you want to work that list.

  • Email them from SAGA: SAGA has built-in mailing lists and broadcasts, so you can drop the separate autoresponder.

  • Bring your team: invite the moderators who helped you run the group so they can work the same contacts.
